1 Corinthians 2:1 - 5

Success in the world's eyes is being able to attract a following by being entertaining, but good preaching is about explaining the Word of God, exalting Christ, and expecting the Spirit to work.
Good preaching explains God's Word. When Paul went to Corinth, he didn't use anything that would distract from the truth of his message. The Corinthian church were already distracted by celebrity and rhetoric, so Paul understood a straightforward message was what they needed.
Good preaching exalts Christ. Paul's manner and speech were unimpressive, and he had no social standing. Even more, he was afraid of being run out of town for preaching - so when he went to preach, the glory could only go to God.
Good preaching expects the Spirit's work. Salvation is a mighty work of God, and He does it through the hearing of the Scriptures. Far from being weak, biblical preaching has power that orators can never have - changing the heart of man by the Spirit within.
