“…fixing our eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith….” Hebrews 12:2
This morning our message from Romans chapter seven is about the struggle all true believers in Jesus contend with. We who are God’ elect willingly submit to the sweet persuasions of God’s Holy Spirit yet still experience the powerful yearnings of our sinful flesh.
Let us not be downcast but fix “our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of faith” (Heb. 12:2) for He understands our weakness for He “has been tempted in all things as we, yet without sin.” (Heb.4:15) so “…consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart” (Heb. 12:3).
Sam Storms in his book, Pleasures Evermore, cited the heart of Jesus’ earthly suffering experience.
The Word became flesh! God became human! The invisible became visible! The untouchable became touchable! Eternal life experienced temporal death! The transcendent one descended and drew near! The unlimited became limited! The infinite became finite! The immutable became mutable! The unbreakable became fragile! Spirit became matter! Eternity entered time! The independent became dependent! The almighty became weak! The loved became hated! The exalted was humbled! Glory was subjected to shame! Fame turned into obscurity! From inexpressible joy to tears of unimaginable grief! From a throne to a cross! From ruler to being ruled! From power to weakness!
Hallelujah what a Saviour - though born to die, He now lives to rule and reign!
