Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 118:1
If God is good, in which His goodness never fails - how come often times, it certainly does not look or feel that way? After all, bad things do happen to the Lord’s people - right? So how can God be good all the time?
I believe we have the answer in a well-known text - Romans 8:28. This tells us that “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purposes.”
What this clarifies is that even when circumstances of life are difficult, heart wrenching and painful, God arranges these earthly dilemmas, for our good, our spiritual good.
Life’s fabric is full of ups and downs that we would like to re-arrange if possible, but God designs our ways which can often include pain, suffering, and heartache. But He is still good!I just love how R.C Sproul puts this - If God is able to make everything that happens to us work together for our good, then ultimately everything that happens to us is good. We must be careful to use the word ultimately. On the earthly plane things that happen to us may indeed be evil… Yet God in His goodness transcends all these things and works them out to our good. For the Christian, ultimately, there are no tragedies. Amen to that!
