WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO?

All the ways of a man are right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the heart. Proverbs 16:2

One question that I often ask the guys in my Sunday school class after each lesson is, “What does God want me to do?” There answers are always very good; things like praying, reading your Bible, going to church, sharing the gospel, and obeying your parents. It’s a great list of things, all of which are important for us to do as Christians.

We want to obey God and His Word and so these things are a great way for us to do that. But as great as they are, they focus more on our outward actions. What about our heart attitudes behind these actions? You can pray with a proud heart, attend church reluctantly, and even share the gospel with wrong motives. God cares about our attitudes just as much as our actions and he knows our true motives behind our actions even if we try to cover them up.

Proverbs 16:2 says, “All the ways of a man are right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the heart.” So this morning as we come to worship God, let us think about our motives, and think about our heart attitudes. Those sitting around us may not be aware of any sinful attitudes but the Lord knows as He looks at the heart.
