The Gospel According To John
Come and See
John 1:35-51
13 December 2020
At some point in our life, we receive the call to come see Jesus. Coming to Jesus, and knowing Him changes the direction of our life.
Jesus extends the invitation to come and see. When John the Baptist's disciples came to Him, He asked them what they were seeking. John had prepared these disciples in repentance, and now Jesus invites them to come learn more about Him. Christ always makes Himself available to those who are humble in heart.
Jesus declares that you will see. John writes that Jesus had intended to go see Philip, and call him to be His disciple; and this was before Philip knew Him. We see his divinity revealed when He shows His knowledge of Nathanael in the same way. Nathanael recognises that He is the Son of God, and follows Him too. We have the same call as John the Baptist's disciples: to come and see Jesus.
