I was reminded recently how little I knew concerning the resources I had at my disposal in my mobile phone. After having a mobile for years I only recently discovered I could tap into a calendar which when loaded up with my schedule, will remind me when the events are due to take place. This really shows how ignorant I am of technological resources I have at my disposal. Yes- you can all shake your heads and smile!
But I was also reminded, when this ignorance of mine was lovingly laughed at, that there is similar ignorance that we all can be guilty of. Not ignorance in technology resources, but something far more serious. Ignorance of the resources we have in the local church for its healthy function.
When we think of resources in the church, we tend to gravitate toward buildings, programs, study material and even technology. All these items are good and right but they are only aids to the most important resources God has gifted the church to employ - His people. That’s us. That means you! I like how E M Bounds has put this: "The church is on a stretch if not on a strain, looking for better methods. But men are God's methods and while the church is looking for better methods, God is looking for better men."
