God gives prosperity and adversity to sanctify us. His love is actively involved in our lives to make us who we should be - like Christ.
The love of God gives understanding to His saints (v. 1 - 4). God's revelation helps His people to better understand the world in which they live. God reveals the hearts of the ungodly, and the walk of the ungodly.
The love of God is precious to His saints (v. 5 - 9). The psalm describes the immensity of God's love despite sin everywhere in the world. And it shows the immanence of God's love - He is near to us in need.
The love of God gives hope to His saints (v. 10 - 12). David has confidence in God's help, knowing that He hears his prayers. He also has confidence in God's judgment against the wicked, and trusts he will eventually be delivered from all evil.
