Satisfied in God
What do you seek earnestly for? What does your soul really long for? In Psalm 63, David is in the dry, parched wilderness of Judah and just as his body thirsts after water, so his soul thirsts after God.
David is in a great wilderness and his physical needs cause him to remember and focus his mind in on his greatest need, God Himself. David begins by praying to God declaring that he will seek God diligently, yearning for Him with all His soul (63:1-2). He sees his stark circumstances and knows that he is spiritually dry and longs for His God (63:1). He thinks back upon the glory and power of God that He has proved to His people and longs to see it in his own life (63:2). David knows that God’s loving-kindness is better than life. He understands that our earthly lives come with adversity; while God’s love endures forever (63:3). In response to God’s love, he will praise God as long as he lives (63:4). Brethren, do you seek after God with all of your soul? Do you remember God’s goodness and love that He has shown you in the past? Like David, give God the glory He deserves through your daily praise.
When David lays in his bed at night, he thinks about God’s help and protection, and he is filled with joy and gladness (63:6-7). He declares that He clings to his God; knowing that it is God who sustains his life (63:8). David ends his meditation with joyful praise as he knows that God will judge the ungodly, and God will be glorified (63:9-11). Brethren, seek first God and His kingdom, rejoice in Him, knowing that when Christ returns he will vindicate the righteous and judge the ungodly.
