A proverb is a compressed statement of wisdom meant to provoke deeper thought. True wisdom is truth thought, and then acted upon.
Proverbs are for us to know wisdom and instruction. Worshipping Christ is the start of true wisdom; to reject Him is folly.
Proverbs are for us to receive instruction in wise behaviour. Wisdom is being able to reason rightly to the right decision. It is the pursuit of professional and personal excellence.
Proverbs are to give wisdom to the naïve. They exist to give boundaries and training in morality to someone lacking in judgement.
True wisdom is understanding that we are not where we need to be, but also that God has brought us further than we were before. Wisdom is therefore not to walk alone, but to walk together with others who can help us along. Ultimately, wisdom means we will become more like Christ.
Where Wisdom Begins
Proverbs gives us the ability to understand how God wants us to live. We need wisdom: the ability to apply knowledge to decisions which are not always clear.
