Governments rise and governments fall, but the kingdom of our Lord endures forever. In John 18, we see the glory of Jesus shine in his trial by Pilate.

We see the contempt of the king. Jesus was beat without a legal trial or even a judgment passed, and brought to Pilate. The corrupt high priesthood was envious of Him, and sought to put Him to death.

We see the interrogation of the king. Pilate initiated the case against Jesus by sending soldiers to arrest Him, hearing He was an insurrectionist. Though the Jewish leaders could have killed him, they wanted Him to be crucified to public shame.

We see the innocence of the king. We see the trial begin, and Jesus' proclamation of His spiritual kingdom. Pilate soon recognized that Jesus was not a threat to Rome, and had done nothing wrong.

The glory and innocence of Christ is seen in the midst of darkness. He is our king, and will one day return to rule.
